Now that we have established that let’s look at Turkish as an origin because you can never be too familiar with your client’s country of origin. Did you know that there is a general fondness, a vast connection between the Turkish and the Koreans?

Are the Two Connected?

Koreans are very fond of the Turkish due to their involvement in the Korean War. It’s true that many countries showed up to help out, but the Turkish military showed up with a whole force of people who had volunteered to help out of their free will. They were also the only country that had no expectations for favors when the war was over.

But…They Also Share an Ancestry

We go way back to the days of the Goguryeo dynasty when Turks weren’t called Turks but Dol-kwol. The connection between the Koreans, however, goes much further back then even those days. Many Koreans believe that there is a shared heritage between the Turkeys and Koreans. They believe that Turkish people are descendent of Northeastern China which is also Korean territory. Fascinating isn’t it?

History is Never Wrong

There is also a connection between the Korean language and the Turkish one. Although Korean is considered to be an isolated language, it’s not. Many people believe that the language is derived from Altaic language in regards to grammar and use of vowels. Turkey is supposed to have descended from the Altaic language, and there lies the connection. Both Korean and Turkish language uses large sets of loanwords from the Chinese.

Due to the linguistics, the Koreans believe there is a strong connection between Koreans and Turkeys and the war sure didn’t help to dissuade that opinion.

Why Koreans Love the Turkeys

Turkish people are very briefly mentioned in old Korean history books. It’s through the use of the name Dol-kwol that you will see the connection. The way the history books tell it, however the Turkish and Koreans have much brotherly love. Despite the fondness that Koreans have for the Turks, it is the Turkish people that understand the historical connection more than the Koreans.

These are some fun facts to consider the next time you have a business meeting with a Turkish client in your quest for business growth. Do your research when it comes to choosing the right Turkish translation service.
